When Jesus Christ was on this earth he was here to do the work promised by God through the prophets for Israel. So one day when a Canaanite woman came to ask Jesus to heal her daughter the apostles sought to send her away. Christ responded in kind.

Matthew 15:23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
24 But He answered and said, "I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."

As you can see above the apostles wanted to send her away and Christ basically said yes that he was come only to find "lost" Israel. Now here is the truth that is often missed concerning the words "Send Away" and "Lost" in the above verses.

Here is the definition for "Send Away in verse 23.

630. apoluo, ap-ol-oo'-o; from G575 and G3089; to free fully, i.e. (lit.) relieve, release, dismiss (reflex. depart), or (fig.) let die, pardon, or (spec.) divorce:--(let) depart, dismiss, divorce, forgive, let go, loose, put (send) away, release, set at liberty.

Now notice the definition for the word "lost" in verse 24.

622. apollumi, ap-ol'-loo-mee; from G575 and the base of G3639; to destroy fully (reflex. to perish, or lose), lit. or fig.:--destroy, die, lose, mar, perish

Did you notice that apoluo and apollumi both come from the same base words? Here are the base word's definitions.

575. apo, apo'; a prim. particle; "off," i.e. away (from something near), in various senses (of place, time, or relation; lit. or fig.):--(X here-) after, ago, at, because of, before, by (the space of), for (-th), from, in, (out) of, off, (up-) on (-ce), since, with. In composition (as a prefix) it usually denotes separation, departure, cessation, completion, reversal, etc.

3639. olethros, ol'-eth-ros; from a prim. ollumi (to destroy; a prol. form); ruin, i.e. death, punishment:--destruction.

Based on the above definitions one could translate Matthew 15:24 in the following manner:

"But He answered and said, "I was not sent except to the put away and punished sheep of the house of Israel."

This is significant in that it relates back to Yahweh's promises in the Old Scriptures and a parable in Matthew 13.

Hosea 1:10 Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God.

You should read all of Hosea chapter 1 and into chapter 2 some. The point however is that Yahweh put away and divorced the house of Israel (and most of Judah as well) in the Assyrian captivity. However he promised that Israel would be as the sand of the sea and would become Christians (Sons of God). They have in fact done just that. Matthew 15:24 does prove that Christ came to seek and find what most people say went out of existance. Most people have been taught that after the house of Israel went into the Assyrian captivity they became lost forever, amalgamated into the Gentiles. However, they only lived among them and then later escaped and moved into Europe. They were also in Greece when the pharisees referred to them in John 7:35 and when Paul went and taught there. Daniel 2:44, Amos 9:9 and others show that God had no intent of them becoming lost forever among the nations.

I should add that Christ was in Palestine to find the few remaining in Palestine of the house of Judah as well. The vast majority of the people living there at that time were actually non-Israelites. Many of the people were Edomites, among them Herod. Many of the pharisees and the leaders of the people were Edomites as well.

Amos 9:9 "For surely I will command, And will sift the house of Israel among all nations, As grain is sifted in a sieve; Yet not the smallest grain shall fall to the ground.

and

Matthew 13:44 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

Few realize today who true physical Israel is today for the truth remains hidden in the field. Today these people are identified as the Anglo-Saxon, Celtic, Germanic, Scandinavian and kindred peoples.
